Fred - Tour around Pico de Aneto - Sept 2007 - Part I
This trip is still high on my list of most interesting and pleasant round solo trekkings ever. Blessed by excellent early September weather, only one morning some light rain, I followed parts of the HRP, the High-level Trail through the Pyrenees, and the
GR11 , the marked long distance footpath through the Pyrenees on the Spanish side.
I walked through the highest parts of the mountain range, while circumnavigating the 'Maladeta' massif with the 'Pico de Aneto' , the highest mountain of the Pyrenees. Although I did not climb any peaks I passed the highest cols of those trails, like 'Col de Mulleres' (2,928 m), 'Col Inférieur de Literole' (2,983 m), and 'Collada de Ballibierna' (2,720 m). A real Alpine environment.
Special thoughts go to those two Spanish walkers whom I met twice south of 'Maladeta' .
One, being blind, was guided by his friend through the scenery, both verbally and by the hand. They both were clearly enjoying the opportunity and the challenges.

Невероятно повезло с погодой - как для начала осени ( начало сентября), только однажды утром легкий дождь, я следовал по отрезкам Гран Рандонне Пиренеев , "Высотное " Рандонне по Пиренеям, а также GR11, GR 11 [Джи Ар Элевен ] - обозначенный пешеходный трэйл (тропа) через Пиренеи по Испанской территории.
Я прошел через самую высокую часть Пиренейских гор, огибая массив Маладета 'Maladeta' с его Пико де Аньето 'Pico de Aneto' ( русское произношение выдаю по испански - по фр будет пик де Ането) - Ането - самая высокая вершина Пиренеев.
Хотя я не забирался на самые вершины в данном случае, но пересекал перевалы - одни из самых высоких перевалов массива, например 'Col de Mulleres' (2,928 m), 'Col Inférieur de Literole' (2,983 m), и'Collada de Ballibierna' (2,720 m). Настоящая альпийская реальность.
Воспоминания совешенно особенные - двое испанских клаймеров, которых я, встретил, причем дважды, к югу от Маладета :
Один - совершенно слепой, ведомый своим другом через горный массив - с помощью слов и вербальных указаний - или за руку. Оба явно наслаждались выданным им шансом и погоды и красоты - а также известных для мест соответствующих испытаний.

Here follows a chronological presentation of some of the many highlights.
Day 1. Just over the 'Pont (= bridge) de Lapade' on the D125 south from 'Bagnères-de-Luchon' is a small parking spot. Opposite a signpost indicates already the planned track. For me, it starts today direction the 'Plateau de Campsaure'. Tanya drives back home.

Только перейдя Понт (мост ) де Лападе 'Pont (= bridge) de Lapade' номер дороги D125 на юг от 'Bagnères-de-Luchon' - Баньерс де Люшон расположен такой скромный маленький паркинг. Напротив : столбик с табличкой, обозначающей запланированный трэк. Поход начинается в направлении 'Plateau de Campsaure'. Таня уезжает обратно домой.
After less than an hour, I notice already snow on the summits in the distance.

Ahead 'Port de Venasque' (2,444 m), my next target, on the border with Spain. In front a monument for the people who fled occupied France via this route to freedom during World War II (1939/40 - 1944/45).

Looking back, a last view down on the 'Hospice de France', an old kind of sanatorium which is now under reconstruction, after many years in ruins.

Day 2. Early morning view on surrounding mountains.
'Refuge de Venasque' at 2,250 m. Notice the tent which sleeps about 12 people when inside there is not enough space, and the socalled out-house (WC) on the left.

On the border in 'Port de Venasque' with magnificent view to south on north side of 'Maladeta' massif in Spain. On the left is 'Pico de Aneto' with 3,404 m the highest summit of the Pyrenees, in the middle 'Pico de la Maladeta' (3,308 m), and on the right 'Pico d'Alba' (3,107 m).
View to the right (west) from south of 'Port de Venasque'. You see the road direction refuge 'Hospital de Benasque', and further on you may locate 'Valle de Remune', where I plan to pass later during my tour. I will now first head east around the 'Maladeta' massif.

A last view, at least for the moment, on the impressive 'Maladeta' mountain range before I will further descend to the 'Plan d'Estans' at around 1,850 m.
'La Besurta' (1,920 m), a bar, at the end of the road from the big refuge 'Hospital de Benasque'. During summer, cars have to be parked well before that refuge and only a local bus shuttle is allowed till here. Many people pass this point on their way up to climb 'Aneto', often after a night in 'Refugi de la Renclusa' at 2,140 m, a 1 hour walk from here.
The 'Forau d'Aiguallut' at 2,050 m. This is the place where the water of the 'Aneto' glacier disappears into the ground. Miraculously it then flows underground to the north, and becomes one of the sources of the river 'Garonne' in France which ultimately ends in the Atlantic Ocean near 'Bordeaux'.

Day 3. Small lakes in 'Rio de l'Escaleta', more or less the start of the long way up to 'Coll de Mulleres'.

The walkers I saw before finally joined me, 3 Germans, 2 men and a woman, who were doing part of the HRP, spending the nights in refuges. One of them made this picture of me, close to 'Coll de Mulleres'.
