¡Spanish Word of the Day!: el savetodo- a know-it-all
__________________________________________________________________________
Trying to write this to analyze what happened/how I feel. So far nothing.
Slept 7am-12pm. Woke up.
Talked self into getting dressed, doing yoga stretches. Looked at internet news a long while, answered emailed including one telling me I was inadvertently being rascist in a zealous, 5am article-rant I wrote to friends/fam about a
paramilitary attack in Oaxaca.
Really wanted to clean whole apt. Ended up sweeping it all, cleaning the bathroom and the kitchen some to stave off fruit fly invasion that happened while we were gone.
At 5pm, first human. Neighbor-landlord crush who embarrassingly witnesses my agoraphobia spells. Five blushing minutes of remembering I was in a Spanish-speaking country (my head is an English-dominant tribal region). We make plans to go to a feria (festival) in Guerrero soon.
Ate cup of oatmeal with spoonful of sugar and water. Only semi-edible thing.
7pm Texted a friend. She called, spoke with her 5 minutes, she invited me to a party which I am not at right now.
7:15-7.30pm Daily curse-filled key search.
At 7:30pm left house to drop off sandal to be fixed, subsequently broke pick-up date. Took bike out for first ride! Went to San Pablo, bike store street. Most of the stores already closed. Found an open one, bought cheapest bike seat, with the Marlboro Man, for 25 pesos (about 10p to US1$). Asked to use bike pump but a man filled my tires for me.
Biked around until I reached downtown. Whistled and shouted at friend's door; he doesn't answer. Bought a yogurt, 2 cookies, and apple cider vinegar at a bodega: 20p.
8pm...Biked around until I got lost. Found same tamale salesman who bikes around my hood. Didn't ask him how to get back but bought a tamale de mole (and chicken). Ten pesos, delicious, but I think butter (or lard?) is the key to that.
9pm Sabotaged a sex-date disguised as "you should buy me some beers" by texting at this late hour. Said beer moocher calls, we reschedule (kinda).
9:30pm Figured out where I was. Stopped at a park with live old people music, dancing. Bought a frappuchino, made with care and no less than six steps of preparation at a stand. 25pesos. Ate tamal, then half the frapp, then the other half with yogurt in it (cookies had been consumed en route), while watching kids play. Brrr.
11pm Back home. Fill cups with vinegar for fruit flies. Computerized again, hungry for nothing good. Thinking of running, eyes burn, trying to finish Heart of Darkness once and for all but ADD, want to put on bike seat at least.
Wish it was 6pm so I could fix bike, run, shower, go to the party.
Having a schedule like this is self-destructive, I know. More humans and sunlight would be good. Less computers and more jobs. The worst is that the window to my room faces the hallway, so everyone knows if I am home.
