OMG, I spoke to my family in Cedar Rapids this morning and I just feel sick. The flooding is unbelievable. This is worse than the flood of 1993, which was awful. They're calling it a 500 year flood

Oh god, Deb. I hadn't made the connect that your family's in CR. (I knew Iowa but couldn't remember the specific city.) I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they remain safe and their homes stay dry!
Yeah, I was in Des Moines in '93 when the whole city was without water because the water plant flooded. This makes me feel horrible, too.
Sounds like it is much worse in Cedar Rapids than Des Moines. Still, I'm a little worried that the Des Moines airport will be closed when I'm trying to fly in there. The roads near it always flood and were already closed when my parents flew back last week. At least my folks live on a hill, though they've been having to bail out their basement.
Now, I've been checking out the local newspapers online all day. Looks like they are anticipating breaking the 1993 record in Des Moines, too. A lot of roads are closed. And some evacuations going on.
I know the flooding is bad in that whole region! I went online and saw some pics from where I used to live in IN and my addition had so much flooding that a car couldn't get out the entrance. I'm sorry that your vacation won't be what you were planning! That just sucks...
