I feel sick
OMG, I spoke to my family in Cedar Rapids this morning and I just feel sick. The flooding is unbelievable. This is worse than the flood of 1993, which was awful. They're calling it a 500 year flood.
I spoke to my brother this morning and he was watching the flood waters get closer to their house than he'd ever believed possible.
While this would be upsetting at any time, when you factor in that all of my family from CR was supposed to be leaving for Tennessee on Sunday, for our family vacation, and there is now the very real possibility that there's no way they'll be able to get out of town, let alone out of the state, it literally makes me feel sick to my stomach. The worry and knowing that there is *nothing* I can do about it is almost overwhelming.
I'm looking at the website for the local paper (The Cedar Rapids Gazette) and reading the one article there I'm fairly convinced that my former house is now underwater. I have no words for what these communities are going through and what the aftermath is going to be. I was there for the 1993 floods and it was devastating. this is going to be so much worse.
