Blue screen the first time I tired this. I feel like this has happened a lot when I try to UPDATE SOME BIZ. I believe it is a sign. In the future I shall be more observant.
So I finished His Dark Materials. And I was listening to Xenogears music a little bit ago. This caused me to realize that there are uncanny similarities between the two, what with all this god and angels shit plus all sorts of other Armageddon type events. However, there are a number of differences between the two.
1. No giant robots.
2. Advanced technology doesn't play a major role in the events - except for the Intention Machine which is retardedly similar to an Omnigear.
3. Only one world as far as I could tell.
4. None of that biblical/zohar Hebrew or Christian allusions bullshit. His Dark Materials generally uses original stuff. The only notable exception was Metatron.
5. Books don't have cut-scenes.
6. ARMORED BEARS
In truth they weren't really that similar, except for the WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH GOD AND RELIGION GUYS thread which appears in fucking everything thanks to fucking existentialism. But its fine. These books don't abuse the original material like Xenogears does and wasn't written for angsty Japanese teenagers. No offense Masato Kato - I blame Tetsuya Takahashi, not you.
Interestingly, my timing for reading these books was pretty damn good considering how relevant they are to the Nietzsche I've been absorbing lately, and also deals with the whole MAGIC thing which has been continually on my mind. So it was relevant on both major fronts of thought I've been ruminating over, although they're close to the same thing in the end.
The books themselves were quite enjoyable, although the direction of the series after the first book was rather unexpected for me. Then again its hard to guess exactly what is going to happen since everything goes real weird after that.
ARMORED BEARS
Played Fallout and should really get back to Fallout 2 since it seems pretty solid. Tactics might also come calling, but I might save that for later depending in how Fallout 2 turns out. I also got a hold of Planescape: Torment, which I just started. However, thus far I'm really liking the feel of the game.
After reading a combo of Russian literature and fantasy, I felt in the mood to watch Gankutsuou. It took me a bit of work to actually get a hold of some dubs, but so far its pretty damn nice. CG reminds me of Ghost in the Shell 2, but the series itself is rather unlike that movie. The bizarre animation methods used are a welcome change from the same old stuff. Its nice to see people trying to be artistic. And I guess I don't dislike Johnny Yong Bosch that much, I just really don't like Vash the Stampede.
