Jack the Bookseller (BOY TALK -- SKIP IF UNINTERESTED)

Jun 20, 2004 00:06

I must have terrible boy karma by now. A couple hours ago I was at Shakespeare & Company buying all sorts of books by Henry James and George Eliot and E. M. Forster for class and I had to ask for help finding a particular edition. This guy who worked there - really nice, helpful - didn't find it in the database but helped me find the $2 Dover ( Read more... )

Heeee, sounds like fun.

Yeah, seriously, a bar at midnight when you're underage might be a little much. But nothing's stopping you from going BAX to the bookstore, right? And you could say why you didn't show up.

Honestly, though, it's hard to trust guys who are that good at PIXing up girls. But fun, huh?

I feel younger at home too, so you're not the only one. And going to a bar when you're under age is probably not a good idea (oh how glad I am that one is legal at 18 here - not because I want to drink, but because everyone lives in pubs here!). Bookshop guy sounds really nice, though... Are you interested in him? Cos if so, you can always go back to the bookstore at a later date, and get to know a bit more about him...or something. Arrange to go for coffee, or something. I don't know...dating isn't really my forte ( ... )

not that its my place to be giving you advice (after all I barely know you!), but well - some other people do dwell on things (perhaps as much as you do), fall hard (perhaps as hard as you do), and feel humiliated by rejection (perhaps as much as you do). Other people don't, of course. The conventional wisdom is that any guy who tries to pick up customers at the book store probably isn't going to lose much sleep over it. If someone has that kind of confidence already, don't worry. Do what seems right to you, just be careful and all =)

...I worry about it needlessly, thinking I've treated them badly or something. I think I assume all other people dwell on things as much as I do, fall as hard as I do, and feel as painfully humiliated by rejection as I do.

*empathizes* I do the same thing.

But I agree with the commenter above me--bookstore guy probably isn't the type to do that, so there's probably no reason to worry.
