GEEX, REWLers, and JOXE
Dude. I'm updating from my LAPTOP, which I haven't used to connect to the internet since school. Since I'm taking a class at NYU right now, I get free NYU dial-up networking...which is very, very slow, but no slower than the connection on my parents' computers. And now that I'm back at my dad's apartment I've been using our old, kinda dead computer - when he got back from sabbatical and I got back from college in December it had decided it wasn't going to start up Windows anymore, so we reinstalled the operating system but obviously did not do a very good job, because now the screen is only 16 colors. So that was fun, looking at people's LJ layouts and icons and goodness, MY icons in only 16 colors. I kept having to highlight the text on my friends page in order to be able to read it. But now I am back on my beautiful full-color laptop, and everything looks so much prettier.
I just timed it, though, and on both computers it takes a grand total of one minute and thirty-four seconds for my school email inbox to load with the dial-up connection. It's slightly ridiculous. That's the same amount of time it takes to load a lotrboys_daily Elijah Wood picspam, and you have one guess as to which is more worth the wait, pictures of Elijah Wood or my empty, lonely inbox.
(The author would like to take this moment to point out that she does not have a crush on Elijah Wood, because he is at least two inches shorter than her. And of course relative height is of utmost importance in celebrity crushes, because even when you're daydreaming about meeting them you can't ignore the fact that you tower over them in your imagination. And yes, she is aware that this is a terrible prejudice and one day she is going to have to date a boy who is quite a bit shorter than her and get over it.)
I almost feel like a computer nerd. Who ever thought I would use the phrase "reinstall the operating system" in an LJ entry? Oh well, I will take comfort in the fact that I don't actually have any idea what I'm talking about and could therefore not possibly be anywhere close to becoming a real computer nerd. :)
Okay, this post is supremely boring. Let's spice it up with some birthdays!

Also, I was just chatting with my friend Aaron who is taking bartending lessons (how cool is that? heh... *loox forward to next year*) and needs to be able to tell jokes on demand for the final exam (or something), so he asked me if I knew any good jokes...and of course my mind went completely black. I can't remember any of my favorite jokes. So here's where you come in, just for fun! Tell me your favorite joke, clean or dirty, innocent or depraved - or just link to a webpage with the joke on it. Make me laugh!
