It was a one time thing. He would never speak of it. She would never speak of it.
They had lives to lead. Carreers to pursue. Neither of them needed the complications they had dragged into the equation.
So when he left her on the bed, he tried not to think about her. And he tried not to think of Anelle. And he tried not to think of the son he’d recently discovered.
So many things not to think of. So little ability to avoid.
He could see her through the window, dragging a brush through her hair and trying to look like nothing had happened. Like he’d never been there. The room was back to the arrangement it had been in before he’d arrived. Perfect.
Never a bit more. Never a bit less.
She noticed him outside and waved him off.
He should have been long gone. It would not do for her husband to come home and find him. It would only cause tension between all of them.
Nevermind, he thought ironically, that Reed Richards was the master of not being tense.
She flopped onto the bed and shivered. He flew away, towards… something. He wasn’t sure where he was going. So he called it patrol and went looking for trouble.
Maybe he could drown his thoughts in the righteousness of a fight.
