He kissed her, soft, tender, quickly pulled back. She blushed and swiped at him.
"Dale."
"What?"
She gave him a meaningful look that meant absolutely nothing to him. Her eyes darted away as soon as she thought someone saw, and she slipped away from him into the crowd that was her family. Dale followed, almost lost her, found her against a wall on the other side of the room.
"Darling, what is the matter?" he asked, befuddled.
"My parents are here."
"So?" Puzzled.
"Dale."
He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and said, "Surely your parents would understand?"
"No." No explanation.
"Oh?"
"My family arranges marriages. They would not understand."
Dale nodded, understanding, and kissed her again before she could protest.
