Last night's bug problem

Sunday evening I watched a notorious movie I'd been curious about, but had avoided until now, because it just sounded so stupid.

Starship Troopers.

At first viewing, it was stupid...-ish. Later, I started reading viewer comments. There is a small and passionate minority who love this movie and consider it an intelligent satire on fascism. (And rank it up there with Dr. Strangelove.)

Subtle, ok yeah; consistent, definitely. (Never once did anyone "wink" to the camera, so to speak.) And the director had first-hand experience living in The Netherlands during the Nazi occupation. Now I'm curious to see it again with a different perspective.

I remember the critic's pans of the film, and how the Troopers were supposed to represent Nazis and the bugs represented Jews. But viewing it with a post 9/11 mentality .... It's never revealed, factually, why the bugs are the enemy. Stuff was destroyed, and they were to blame.
