new years resolutions

inspired by fishy once again, i'm looking back on last year's resolutions:

1) hope steve finds a job. he did - it's not ideal, but we're getting by, and i'm happy with that.
2) finish my book. still not finished. i did send off three manuscripts and got two back - one wasn't taking on any new clients, and the other said they were very impressed but didn't know enough about the subject matter. i need to research and try again.
3) become financially secure enough to buy a house. big tick! we needed steve's mum and dad as guarantors, but we're actually on the property ladder now!
4) get my accreditation for counselling. sounds like a cop out, but i decided not to. it costs a lot to go for, and then the membership costs are higher too. i'm not really in a position to be looking to change job for a while anyway, but if i did apply for anything i can explain that i'm good to go for it, as i now meet the criteria to apply.
5) join a choir. two lots of tongue surgery put a stop to this idea!
6) finish lego harry potter (years 1-4) and "invest" in years 5-7 :o) yep, we did. we haven't bought 5-7 yet.
7) lose weight. um... can i count freddie as an excuse for this one? actually, i think i did lose weight in real terms, as i was back to pre-pregnancy weight within about two weeks.

new resolutions for this year are:

1) lose weight. maybe if i chop off my leg...
2) continue to do work on the house, even though it's less critical now - i want to make it really ours.
3) the above includes the garden, so i resolve to fill the brown bin for every collection.
4) get proper, physical photos and photobooks of freddie, and keep them safe.
5) do a really good job of working from home, and not get lazy.
6) get outside more often.
7) start using Just Dance on the wii.
8) make christmas presents. materials have already been ordered so i can do it a bit at a time!
9) try again to get my book published.

hopefully i'm making a start on (6) - freddie and i walked to the shops this morning before breakfast, a round trip of a couple of miles. we can also walk into town from here, which is a couple of miles either way, but it's pretty flat so do-able.

i read 55 books last year. so far this year i have read The Cat's Table by Michael Ondaatje, and am now reading The Long Earth, which is by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter, and i'm really enjoying it - i know i recommend a lot of books, but i'm really resenting only being able to read this one in small chunks - i was even reading it in bed last night with a flashlight app on my phone!
