So this past week, after driving to work without issue, my trusty Saturn did not start when i needed to run out mid-morning. I turned the key and i got a sad "click" "click" "click" and it would not start. :( This same thing happened just a few days ago to Meg's Xterra at the gas station. In her case it was the battery and she got a new battery and her truck was fixed. But back to the Saturn, Jump the battery, nothing. Get a new battery, nothing.
So the great maintenance guys at work said they would look at it. Some poking and banging and they decided that the starter needed to be replaced. Back to the auto parts store. This should be an easy task, just a few bolts and wires, except that the starter is in a tough to get to spot. The maintenance guys were able to get the starter swapped out pretty quickly. But when I turned the key, i still got the "click" "click" "click". Crap. I was ready to give up and push the car into the Meadowlands marsh.
But they did not want to give up, so they got some wire and ran it to the starter and it finally coughed to life (i think some oil got somewhere it didn't belong when they had it jacked up, almost on it's side). So the problem was narrowed down to one likely relay that is hidden "somewhere" under the dash. So instead of taking the dashboard totally apart in the parking lot at work, they ran a wire into the car so i could at least start the car by basically hotwireing it. At least i could get home and work on things at home. Yeah!!
After looking online, i located and replaced the relay. But no joy yet. The relay was not the issue. Poured over the saturnfans.com forums and the only other issue that could be was the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module. This part is not available anywhere that I could find (no good pick and pull places that I know of around here). So that left me the only option of jumping out the relay. Finally, turn they key and it starts right up. :)
So now the Saturn has a new battery and a new starter. Sometimes it is the little things :)
I also picked out a new 2013 Blue Nissan Versa. I hope to have a new car in a week or so, but I will not be getting rid of the Saturn just yet.
