I've been mentionning bits and pieces of this fic ever since I saw the movie ("But it would be hilarious if Luke had been training secret Jedis on his island planet because too many Skywalkers spoil the soup Force, I am just saying"). It was the fic mentionned in this post as "a fic in which ghost!Anakin makes an appearance" (he has 0 lines in this fic, btw -- that's okay, I am writing a fic that is all ghost!Anakin all the time so brace for that, I guess). It is also, more surprisingly (because far less explicit) the fic I was thinking off when I asked for recs about the POWER OF FRIENDSHIP which is why the fic is kind of structured like the pilot of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I told you it was research!
THE ENTIRE BACK HALF OF THIS FIC IS A FIGHT SCENE WITH A DOZEN PEOPLE IN IT OMG it was really hard to write. I kept having to stop to keep track of who was fighting who, where all the weapons were and all that, argle bargle. Like, no, I am not joking, there are really eleven people involved in this fight scene. There's Rey, Luke, Luke's three apprentices and six Knights of Ren. Eleven.
I talked to the beta yesterday like "PLEASE DOES THIS MAKE SENSE what is plot what is character" but hopefully it works out! I'm told it does and it looks like it does.
I am kind of stupidly fond of those OCs, lmao. There's more backstory that didn't make it in -- Tahli is actually the reason Luke picked that specific planet to settle on, for example. Lyeppias has been there all of three months. Hrel's fantastic roadtrip is only mentionned, not expanded on. Hrel calls Luke "Master Luke" as a compromise between "Luke" which is what he wants her to call him and "Master Skywalker" which is want she wants to call him (the dark side of the Force is very formal, did anyone else notice that?). She's kind of glad she doesn't have to be confused which Master Skywalker she's talking about.
Hrel got her name fairly early on in the writing process -- I found one of those joking "your Knight of Ren name" memes and started applying it to friends and family until I found one I liked. Tahli and Lyeppias spent the whole fic writing process as "Lazybutt" and "Grumpypants", which you can find traces off in the nicknames they give each other at the start. Hrel also had a placehoder name (Happygolucky, for the curious), but it didn't fit, so I found her a name as early as I could. Tahli and Lyeppias are also the result of "your Star Wars name" memes, slightly modified.
Seriously, that fight scene has eleven people in it and they keep passing weapons around like hot potatos. Fucking hold still a minute, you lot.
