And here we have a beautiful young woman, almost nineteen, practically bouncing in. She has eyes so blue they just about jump out at you, and long, long hair, inherited from her mother, originally the blackest black imaginable, but now dyed multiple colors you don't actually find in nature

"Er... hello." He smiles at the pretty new girl. "Where're you from?"

Oh, he's cute. She eyes him up and down, and grins at him. "I'm from Oz. The Vinkus. You?"

"Paris, France." Her gaze was just a little unnerving, so he looks down, not blushing but clearly embarrassed. "I've not heard of Oz."

Well, now she's looking back at his face. Though, really, The Blue can be unnerving in and of itself. "Good. Because if you had, it would lead to some awkward questions about my mom." She smiles. "I've always wanted to go to France, though. What's it like?"

[wild_oats]

"Busy. Full of people and dusty compared to England. I know this isn't England but it reminds me of there, especially since for years Papa used to say he was visiting family in England when he came here."

[teh_littlest_tc]

"I've been to England a few times to visit my aunt and uncle. I always loved it." Another small bounce. "Why did your dad say he was going somewhere and coming here instead? Is it that much fun here?"

[wild_oats]

"I think the going to England thing was an excuse. Not everyone in Paris knew about here, and he does have family he can only visit here. By the time I knew enough to ask, I didn't really feel the need to ask. It's not everyday a Frenchman gets adopted by elves and then marries an Englishman born about an century and half after his time."

Her eyes widen a little. "Adopted by elves! Wow. None of the elves I know would ever be interested in adopting someone. That's ... wow. So you're, like... an honorary elf? Very cool."

"My adopted grandfather seems fond of me, if that's the right word."

"What's he like? Maybe the elves in Oz are different than the ones you mean."

[wild_oats]

"He's tall and very, very serious. He makes things, lovely things."

[teh_littlest_tc]

"What sorts of things?"

[wild_oats]

"Weapons, jewels, jewelry... he's a smith and a king."

[teh_littlest_tc]

"Oh, how nice! That would be wonderful, to be able to make all that... My dad took me to see a smith once when I was a kid. It was hot in there! But seeing all the things she had made was amazing."

"He does make amazing things. He's quite intimidating. Papa usually can hold his own against him though. They can be amusing to watch."

"Do they argue a lot? My gramma is the most frustrating woman in the world, according to my dad, when he thinks I'm not listening."
