Re: 1st Character; Jadzia Dax hot_spots January 16 2011, 23:56:08 UTC
At these times, the fun-loving prankster who gambles all night with Ferengi and listens to Klingon loves operas for fun becomes very vulnerable and open. These sides of her don't clash: her nature is to come out of these rough spots with new strength. To take in a weakness and overcome it. That means that she faces her weaknesses...though sometimes, she certainly does need a kick to get moving in the right direction. Before receiving that kick, she can become exceptionally stubborn, especially in her pride is at stake in matters that truly concern her--though she can relent and submit, she doesn't like to, not even a little bit. In fact, she almost called off her wedding because she refused to submit to approval from a woman who could accept or deny her. However, she was able to face this, and let go of the pride, after a long talk with an old friend. While occurring after her canon point, it is representative of her personality in general--both stubborn and flexible. Young and old. The dual nature of her being, in other words, that makes her so much fun.

Now, specifically, as far as handling major changes, well. There are several points to make in why I think she'll cope well...and also a few thought after that on how she'll probably react at first.

1: She is a joined Trill. This means that she went from being a single, quiet, reserved, focused, somewhat introverted young woman into a person with memories from 7 lives. Her entire character changed; she literally became a new person; no longer Jadzia, but Jadzia Dax. To that end, she was counselled and guided for years before being selected to join with a symbiont in all manner of ways. While not directly applicable, both the preparations and the screenings to make sure she was not unstable make her very capable of handling change.

2: She is also a trained Starfleet Officer, with two years of combat experience in war, both on the ground and in ships, and even as a commander, a leader. Again, by itself, it doesn't mean that she will brush change away, but it does mean she has faced tough things and changes before, she has had training to handle such things, and has the experience to handle such things.

3: Her personality itself is very resilient. Even when she discovered that one of her "past lives", so to speak, as Dax, had been hidden because the host had proven to be a killer and wildly unstable--she was able to come to terms with this, and accept his memories into herself without losing herself to them. Though she had to take time to "take it all in", she was able to, and even was able to confront Joran (said murderer) later during a Trill ceremony, and maintain her control of herself.

All of these things tell me that she will be surprised, and shocked, and even afraid, when she appears in the game, but she won't stop functioning, or thinking, or anything like that.

In fact, those things, coupled with her connection to the Klingon culture and her martial arts training tell me that even arriving alone and naked with nothing to use for defence, she would still be on the edge of attack and escape the moment she wakes up. At the same time, she isn't a wild and destructive person with a temper...she has the patience to wait and see what is happening, to gain information on where she is and why she's there. As long as there is not immediate threat, she will remain calm--but if she feels trapped or imprisoned, she may lash out. It will not come from simple anger or fear, but a calculated consideration of her options: she will, without a doubt, assume herself to be a prisoner of war, and will react accordingly.
