Hello, livejournal. It's been a while.
I'm terribly sorry I've been neglecting you... tumblr, facebookmonster, and twitter sort of devour my time like an attention-feeding hellbeast.
Now that that is out of the way... Despite that it is roughly 5ish months away, and letters of Intent haven't even BEGUN to go up for the Artist Alley yet, I can't help but begin thinking up and planning for things. Good lord almighty when did I become such a hardcore "A-Type"? :|
ANYWHO! I know I still have a lot of bookmarks and stuff from last year [as well as display materials and whatnot... thank god...] But now that I have a fancypants sticker/magnet/laminating machine I am now turning to sticker, magnet, and possibly charm designs. I am also thinking of attempting window decals assuming I can get my printer to cooperate. [my printer has been acting stupid recently and it makes me sad...]
So yeah, PRIMARY OBJECTIVE!
• More bookmarks. They were a hit last year [someone actually bought every single design I had made!] so I'm sure making up more will work out too! there were a lot of designs I wanted to do but ran out of time for, because I am the worst of the worst at time management. someone be my time management/pep-talk coach to keep me in lime omg...
• Stickers. Any booth I saw that had stickers was doing amazing with them... so I wanna piece of that pie too! [mm... pie..] While the major point of sale is character-based stickers, I also want to do other types as well. Like my "Chocobo, the OTHER white meat!" one etc. I am weird and like doing "other" stuff I guess.
• Magnets. I may not have a ton of these, as the magnet-rolls for my lil' machine are very expensive... but again, some designs I make as stickers I may also make as magnets, or I may do unique designs, or a mix of both. I don't know! We'll see..
• Window Decals. I have seen [primarily inkjet friendly] clear printable decal sheets for sale, which peaked my interest. I'm sure other tables have tried this SOMEWHERE but it seems unique enough to be a potential "go to" point of sale for me. have to see how well they hold up and if my printer likes 'em or not... but if it works then expect fun window decals! My ultimate goal is to see if I can get them "car friendly" since that is the main point of decals... but again, more than likely it'll be silly stuff involving lolcats, gamer humor, and other nerdy things. because that's what I do.
• 5"x7" "postcard prints". This would mainly be an experiment... a lot of artists do prints. A lot... my idea for these smaller prints is a bit experimental. Have some people, well, art prints [xD] while others I may do as mockup actual "postcards"... like a lakeside Amusement Park or Deerfest postcard. Stuff like that... if I can wing it I'm sure those'll be a hit. Because what's better than getting a letter from a dead spouse from Silent Hill? A nifty Postcard! HELL YEAH!
• "Stickers-on-Demand/Sticker Commissions". I am currently using a 3.5"x5" mini sketchpad to do initial sketching and linework for sticker/magnet designs... because I have a MUCH MUCH easier time sketching and planning out artwork traditionally, then touching it up digitally. Don't ask... I can't figure it out either. HOWEVER! this got me thinking... mini sketchpad that is just the right dimensions + sticker making machine + copic markers = Stickers While you wait! As long as I keep the requests/commission designs simple I SHOULD be able to handle this. The repositionable adhesive roll is fairly cheap, and the designs would be small enough for me to draw and color up fairly quickly! it'd be a neat experiment to try... and it'll help me get used to colorin' faster, gahaha.
• Charms. Again, this will be an experiment. My idea to make charms is use my sticker/magnet/laminating machine to laminate my designs, use a hole punch for the appropriate hole, use boring old wire as a tiny "string" to attach to an actual key chain ring. [as opposed to just hookinjg the charm itself to the ring, to give it much needed flexibility! basically make a lil' knot loop on the charm, then make a second one on the ring...] I have NO IDEA AT ALL if this will work, if the charms will hold up, or if my wire idea will even work [I may have to get/make/find lil' chains... ugh.] but if it DOES hold up then KERBLAM. Relatively quick and easy charms that I don't have to order online in MEGABULK to make! ♥
As for actual 8x10 prints and stuff? If I can make 'em I'll make 'em... that I honestly don't know if I will have, my prints last year didn't do so well [except the sailor dalek one. That one sold out TWICE.] so yeah. I know I drew up designs for two 11x17 poster prints, I may put my energy into those...? one I kind of want to re-draw anyway, oof. ><;;
And as for series/subject matter...? OH GOD. I am constantly at war with myself on what I wanna do... what I like versus what is "popular" versus "the right people will get it"... I am... hilarious with this, to say the least. I am also abusing the hell out of elipses and I don't give a damn. But some idears I am thinking:
Gaming:
• Red Dead Redemption
• Silent Hill
• Okami/Okamiden
• Resident Evil
• Left 4 Dead/Left 4 Dead 2
• Alan Wake
• Portal/Portal 2
• Rayman origins
• Final Fantasy
Anime:
• Mahou Shoujo madoka Magica
• Black Rock Shooter [OVA]
• Miyazaki related [Totoro, Mononoke Hime, etc]
Other:
• Lolcat related [long cat, ceiling cat, etc...]
• Geek Culture stuff
• Zodiac signs/designs
• Mythological Creatures/Folklore designs
• Original Artwork
• Doctor Who
Yup... a lot of thinking and planning! haha... here's hoping I can even get half of it done, because that would be awesome. [I also need to rig up a display for both my magnets and window decals... *eyeballs her engineer friend[s] she knows...* This was mainly a "thought gathering" post anyway, since twitter is too short, tumblr is really image based, and fbmonster is just plain... weird to use for such things. hahaha! I may end up focusing more on the "little things" instead of big fancy prints... or I may shift back and want to do prints too... IT'S ALL UP IN THE AIR AND CONFUSING right now.... but at least I am getting motivated? That has to be a good thing, and if I don't get a table this year I am going to punch someone and cry. Blarg!
