Destry Rides Again

A few words of advice: when the dentist says to take care of your teeth, please listen! I'm a sorry example of why brushing alone is not enough. Amazingly enough, I have no cavities, but I do have a handful of other dental issues that come from pish-toshing the dental floss.

(I never thought this would happen to ME. I brush five times a day! Anyhow, things could be much worse. It is not too late, they tell me. Still, I should have known better all along.)

But enough about that! I want to talk about distractions. When the dentist drills your teeth, or the nurse shoves a needle in your arm, or when you find yourself in a gratingly unpleasant situation, how do you divert your attention? What is your magic mind-transport device?

Me, I think about Marlene Dietrich. No movie sequence exists (anywhere, ever) that is more bewitching than when Marlene sings "You've Got That Look" in 'Destry Rides Again.' In fact, for a while, every morning when I woke up, I watched that two-minute scene over and over... and over and over and over... while I ate breakfast and drank my coffee. This went on for a month or more! I was helplessly hooked on the magic.

You've got that look, that look that leaves me weak!
You with your eyes-across-the-table technique.

I know it's kind of nutty? But I love visiting celebrity graves!
