There's nothing quite like nuns breaking out showtunes.

I LOVE nuns. I actually have a few gregorian chant cds with nuns as I prefer them to monk's voices.

For the longest time I've thought about just giving up and becoming a monk, until I realized how boring monks are compared to nuns. But still, I mean, I'd like to be just left alone to tend my garden and read and make little do-dads and stuff. HMMM.

Do you have this one? It's good, and I like the ancient crone sister who chants on one of the last songs:

I feel so inspired--and I'm not even Catholic.

I finally mailed the nun records I had for you this week, so they should be brightening the corner where you live very soon.

Funny, I thought about becoming a monk at one (or two) points in my life. The thing is, I realized that what I really wanted at those times was to become a nun like Ingrid Bergman in The Bells of St. Mary's or Stella Stevens in Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows.

Have you ever read Nun by Mary Gilligan Wong? It's a fab nun bio and it was made into a made-for-tv movie starring Valerie Bertinelli in the early '80's (one of Val's better tv flicks). I believe it was called Shattered Vows.

Hi there!! The monastic life sounds so exciting, at first. I imagined I'd get to spend all my time reading, knitting, making little beaded angels (heaven forbid), and shaking up the church when I revamp the choir (a la Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act). The reality would be MUCH less exciting, I'm afraid.

I need to look for that book by Mary Gilligan Wong! Thanks for the tip -- it sounds great. I looked it up on Amazon and I like the catty customer review with comments like:

• "If you don't want to be a nun, FINE!"

• "There's nothing wrong with having sex, Mary, but WHY NOT GET MARRIED FIRST!!!!???!!!!"

• "She doesn't mention ANYTHING about the continued importance of her RELATIONSHIP with God...it's all about the world, and freedom, nail polish and male 'friends.'"

Sounds like a good book to me! But it also sounds like somebody is bitter about nuns leaving the Catholic Church!

Exciting stuff.
