Houston Proud

I would like to start with how proud I am of the entire city of Houston. This week has made me more proud of Houston than I ever imagined. We have stepped up to the plate. We decided to offer shelter to the evacuees at the dome and in under 24 hours we were ready with cots, water, food and desperately needed medical attention. We showed FEMA how it's done. My city rocks!

Yes, I've donated money. Yes, I will be bringing clothes to drop points. But, I also wanted to share what the company I work for is doing. In another post, I mentioned that EV1 offered help to DirectNIC so that their customers would be able to maintain their online presence. You may be thinking "screw online presence, people are dying." Yes, they are and I cannot help them. What I can do is try to help minimize collateral damage. Thousands of companies depend on internet presence. Some of those companies are online through DirectNIC. If DirectNIC is offline, so are their clients. If their clients cannot do business it means that there are that many more people harmed by this horrible situation. So I asked EV1 to help and from what I understand we have helped in a few ways (we were even thanked on Interdictor's LJ Site ).

EV1 has also been asked to donate a server that will be used as a database of information for the evacuees. Eerok got that set up Friday at work. I have volunteered to do data entry for the people organizing this database and will let you know if/when I find out more information about this project.

I think it's fabulous that weebabe and Stephanie have done what they have done/are doing what they are doing. And I am in awe of what madmalik (madmalik) has done/is doing.

When my dad worked for the Houston Chamber of Commerce (now the Greater Houston Partnership) they started a slogan for the city "Houston Proud". So, all this entry is just to say that I am proud of this great city...I am definitely "Houston Proud."
