Round #20; Supernatural - Gabriel, Anna, Balthazar

Nov 21, 2013 07:44

Fandom: Supernatural
Subject: Gabriel, Anna, Balthazar
Title: Runaway Angels
Warnings/Notes: Look, I just have a lot of feelings about these guys, ok?

Gabriel, Anna, and Balthazar are angel ‘siblings,’ as much as thousands of angels can be considered that way. They each, in their own time, chose to leave Heaven for surprisingly similar reasons (being sick of what Heaven had become to them: it was no longer home). This mix follows them through their disillusionment with Heaven, their decisions and experiences in leaving, and their less than triumphant (thanks to the attempted apocalypse and its aftermath, mainly) returns to their other siblings.

It’s structured so that it cycles through each point of view - Gabriel, Anna, Balthazar - for each of the three main divisions mentioned above, one song per angel per section. The final song felt like a necessary wrap-up to tie it all together, and belongs to all three of them. (ok, and The Boxer could probably apply to all of them, but it really gives me all the Balthazar feels, so)

Family Portrait - P!nk
It ain’t easy growing up in World War III
never knowing what love could be, you’ll see.
I don’t want love to destroy me like it has done my family.
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I’ll be better, mommy, I’ll do anything.
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I’ll be better, Daddy, please don’t leave.

Paradise (Coldplay cover) - Within Temptation
When she was just a girl
she expected the world.
But it flew away from her reach
so she ran away in her sleep.
Dreamed of para- para- paradise
Every time she closed her eyes.
...
Life goes on, it gets so heavy
the wheel breaks the butterfly.
Every tear a waterfall
in the night, the stormy night
she closed her eyes.
In the night, the stormy night
away she’d fly.
And dreamed of para- para- paradise.

Lights - Ellie Goulding
Voices I play within my head.
Touch my own skin and hope that I’m still breathing.
And I think back to when my brother and my sister slept
in an unlocked place, the only time I feel safe.
You show the lights that stop me, turn to stone
you shine it when I’m alone.
And so I tell myself that I’ll be strong
And dreaming when they’re gone.

Capsize - Karen O and the Kids
Oh, Momma turned her back on me,
Daddy left when I was three,
don’t tell Sis, I’m out the door!
I won’t need them anymore.
...
C-A-P-S-I-Z-E all the way home, I’m gonna tilt a while.
M-I-S-S-M-E all you want, you’re gonna wait a while.

Valley of the Dolls - Marina & the Diamonds
Born with a void, hard to destroy with love or hope.
Built with a heart, broken from the start and now I die slow.
In the valley of the dolls, we sleep. Got a hole inside of me,
living with identities that do not belong to me.
In my life I got this far, now I’m ready for the last hoorah.
Dying like a shooting star,
In the valley.

The Fallen - Franz Ferdinand
So we stole and drank Champagne
on the seventh seal you said you never feel pain.
“I never feel pain, won’t you hit me again?
I need a bit of black and blue to be a rotation.”
In my blood I feel the bubbles burst
there was a flash of fist, an eyebrow burst.
You’ve a lazy laugh and a red-white shirt,
I fell to the floor, fainting at the sight of blood.
...
The fallen are the virtuous among us, walk among us.
If you judge us, we’re all damned.

The Noose - A Perfect Circle
Recall the deeds as if they’re all
someone else’s atrocious stories.
Now you stand reborn before us all,
so glad to see you well.
And not to pull your halo down
around your neck and tug you to the ground,
but I’m more than just a little curious
how you’re planning to go about
making your amends to the dead.

Sugar and Spice - Basia Bulat
I looked to the sky and I saw the sun turning to rust.
I looked for the road, but all I could see was the dust.
I remembered your voice, when you said it was better for us.
Oh, oh, oh how I’ve done myself in.
I’ve played out my hand, I’m turning it in,
the house always wins in the end.
Oh, oh, oh how I’ve done myself in.
Oh, oh, oh how I’ve done myself in.

The Boxer (Simon & Garfunkel cover, feat. Jerry Douglas & Paul Simon) - Mumford & Sons
In the clearing stands a boxer
and a fighter by his trade.
And he carries the reminder
of every glove that laid him down
and cut him till he cried out,
in his anger and his shame,
“I am leaving, I am leaving”
but the fighter still remains.

Missing - Evanescence
Please, please forgive me,
but I won’t be home again.
Maybe someday you’ll look up
and barely conscious, you’ll say to no one,
“Isn’t something missing?”
You won’t cry for my absence, I know,
you forgot me long ago.
Am I that unimportant?
Am I so insignificant?
Isn’t something missing?
Isn’t someone missing me?
