This makes me so completely sad.

Michael Crichton was the first "adult" novelist I ever read. I tackled his stuff when I was in middle school and ate it up. Admittedly, I was never a true fan: I never bought EVERY SINGLE TITLE and I only read the titles that interested me. Those of you who read calico_reaction may remember my complete and utter obsessing over Karin Lowachee's books, especially Warchild, which I proclaimed to be the best science fiction novel I'd read in a long time. In terms of new-to-me authors, one of my favorite finds of last year was Paolo Bacigalupi. I happened upon one of his short stories in F&SF and just fell in love with his prose, his stories, and his ideas. There's a gritty realism to the various shades of Bacigalupi's fictional futures that simply can't be beat, and I love it. Not something to take ( Read more... )
