This is an interesting comparison for me, because more often than not, when Pyr publishes the US release of a book that's already been published overseas, the covers are very, very similar. Not always, but often. But not in this case.

You know the drill: if you were browsing in the bookstore and you came across this book, face out so you could see the cover, and you knew NOTHING of the author or the series, which cover, if either, would interest you enough to pick up the book and read the blurb/first few pages?

If you choose "neither," I'd love to know what it is about these covers that just don't appeal to you. It may be something as simple as genre, but if you make that selection, feel free to comment.

Same goes if you like both covers equally. What is it about those two covers that appeals to you but won't let you pick one or the other? Again, feel free to comment. :)

The UK cover all the way. When it comes down to it, I don't like traditional fantasy art. It's too cartoonish for me, and I don't want an artist showing me what people look like (and in this case, I'm just plain biased against dragons, and I have to look carefully to decide if that's a giant robot next to the dragon or a knight in armor. I'm guessing it's the latter). But landscapes I'll buy. This particular cover is just very pleasing to my eye with the coloring and the war-ravaged field. If this were facing out on the shelf, you can bet I'd take another look.

However, I'll be fair: I've seen the US cover in stores and it's a nice-looking trade. I just don't care for the art.

And that's me! :)

Don't forget: one of these days, I'm going to run out of examples. Not because they aren't OUT there, but because I'll have either forgotten about them or won't know they exist. So if you have covers you'd like me to highlight in this series, please comment with the author's name, the title of the book, and whether or not it's a part of a series. :) I've got a list, and I'd love to add to it. :) However, I would PREFER to keep the covers in the SF/F/H realm of both adult and YA, but I'll be honest, I don't have too, especially if the cover differences are worth noting. Thanks!
