Dúo Dinámico continually inspires me to envision vignettes of an en Español musical I'd love to make. "Perdoname" would be the opener, and, well, actually that's all I have at the moment. Dammit, my head, if you only you were ever satisfied. Oh, and "Quince Años Tiene Mi" would be in there somewhere. All I need is a living Busby.
I've come to the conclusion that if I become a director, musicals and music videos would be my prime. I write for music, which is probably why I have these problems in the first place. It's always fluff over story for me, a theory everyone shakes their head at.
"Well, I think it can be done, I mean, if it's done well I think a series of related images and random emotions can express a story more than a story can. Do you know what I mean?"
"Yes - but you're an experimentalist."
The Rise of Catherine The Great was fairly simple and well, just a cute costume drama. It's a beautiful film, I mean, the stills on the VHS box look nice (this one has yet to be rewarded with a DVD release). Why does DVD feel so highly of itself, as if it doesn't want to play with good bad horror films, or older not-so-commercially-remembered movies? I guess I'll have to live with the nostalgia wrapped in my VHS and laserdiscs until I build my own distribution company, "like the Criterion Collection, minus the directors' corruption!"
"Como Ayer" Dúo Dinámico.
"Together, Forever In Love" Go Sailor.
"Washington D.C." The Magnetic Fields.
