I'm hoping to make some really great films in cinema this year. I figure it's my turn to be one of those cocky advanced-majors, only with good movies, minus the cockiness. And I was very excited at this semester's projects: anything within the perimeters of black and white, and a silent film. I had a period of enlightenment when I came to the realization that outside side-projects are dumb. I'm not going to make a good 30 minutes plus film on my own. And being in my cinema class gives me a reason to be lavish. I don't think anybody really respects my tastes. I want to make some Busby Berkeley scenes, some "glorious black and white" musical. I want to make some of it dumb, thus, almost smart. Everyone is wrapped in their "independent" ideals, the word becomes a cliche genre. Why am I looked-down upon for getting dancers, instrumental music composers, and others into my production? Isn't that essentially how the school should work? I hate that all the majors are so specialized, and out-of-touch.
So, this is the project I'm most excited about possibly making. Lavish and 1930s-esque.
Perversion, my Persephone.
A silent film/ musical, my slight twist on the Greek tale explores more on Persephone's own personal pleasures through her kidnap and longing for the husband she met through rape. Instead of gods and goddesses, Hades, Demeter, Zeus, and Persephone will all be portrayed as royalty in different social classes. I just want it to be a very eerie, and great haunting and dark musical (though silent otherwise). Costumes, costumes.
But I'm a Cheerleader!
What a great, little queer-athon!
I loved that Julie Delpy was in it.
And such a gorgeous color-scheme.
"Detouring America With Horns" Yo La Tengo.
"I'm a Vampire" Future Bible Heroes.
"San Diego Zoo" The 6ths.
