Help me! Somebody help me!

EDITED: I AM STILL PISSED AS ALL HELL ABOUT THIS. (I guess for those of you wondering what I am ranting about, just read the rest of the post.) AFTER SPENDING A GOOD PORTION OF TODAY TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT, I HAVE JUST COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THIS BACKLINKS FEATURE, ON MY BLOG AT LEAST, IS A GODDAMNED FUCKING PILE OF STEAMING SHIT. AND THERE IS NO HELP/SUPPORT TO BE FOUND OUT THERE FOR IT ANYWHERE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS.

I have many other things I need to be doing, but just can’t because I obsess on ONE thing, and one thing ONLY, till I get it right. I just can’t concentrate on anything else until I get it done, either, so telling me to get a grip, etc, isn’t going to do any good. Because, really, you don’t think I already know that?

Well, here is the original post:

-------------
Blogger is about to make me cry. Seriously. I have fought long and hard with my backlinks code to try to get them to link to the appropriate sites….you know, the sites who linked to the post? But I can not figure out how to do it. I finally ‘broke’ mine, where they just stay open instead of collapsed. But that’s okay, I fixed that once, and I can fix it again.

So, for a long time I just thought that maybe this couldn’t be done. Then I see it being done over at Hackosphere. (Example here.) Then I thought, well, this Ramani is really smart and does lots of neat hacks and scripts, so maybe it’s something he just did on his own for himself. And that’s totally okay, because you shouldn’t be obligated to share something neat just because you figured out a way to do it.

Then I saw it over at Pop on the Pop. (Example here.)

I searched high and low for the code to ‘enable’ this, and there is just nothing out there that I haven’t already tried. Everything that looked promising turned out to be from the ‘old’ blogger, and that’s another huge gripe I have. Whenever I went to blogger to search for tips on this, nothing was relevant to the ‘new’ blogger; all the code just pertained to the obsolete ‘old’ blogger. I mean, they made it where you can’t just open an old blogger account and there is talk of them eventually switching everyone over to the ‘new’ blogger eventually. Yet all the customization codes only pertain to ‘old’ blogger. It just boggles my mind how few resources there are out there for customizing your ‘new’ blogger template. I even joined the Blogger Help Google group hoping for some insight, but the only questions I found answered referenced back to the blogger pages with old blogger code. I don’t know where else to go.

I feel so horrible griping about it because Blogger is a free service and I am very appreciative of the opportunity to be able to use their free services which, I think, are quite good. And I think this backlinks deal only works with other blogger users/blogs anyway. Still, it frustrates me to no end to know that there is indeed a way to do something I want to do, and for me to: a) not be able to figure out how to do it on my own, and b) not be able to find any documentation on it.

Blogger, you move me to tears.

For those of you out there who use blogger and the backlinks, do you just get an expand/collapse toggle button and then a snippet, or do you actually get a post title and url to someone else’s post with a backlink? I wonder if a hack I am using is interfering with it in some way? But I doubt it, because the hacks I am using are all being used at Hackosphere as well.

(I am somewhat ashamed of my language, but the outburst strangely made me feel a bit better.)
