Remember this story from 2014
http://devil-n-disquiz.livejournal.com/21527.html Well, one day in Oct 2015 I was called out of the blue by an officer from Gunghalin Police Station.
OFFICER: Hello, its Officer X from Gunghalin Police Station. Are you Rod #####?
ME: Yes I am
OFFICER: We have a wallet of yours in our possession. Has a bunch of your IDs in it but no cash. If you would like to come and collect it please bring ID with you.
ME: Thank you so much.
I explained to the officer when it had gone missing, how, and the officer in charge of the investigation at Woden Police Station.
To cut a long story short. My wallet had ended up in a charity bin and handed in to the police station. To cut an even loner story short, it transpires that the thief had given the wallet to a mate of his who had put it in a drawer and forgotten about it. Fast forward nearly a year later and the mate found it again and dumped it.
But the story doesn't end there. The police knew who had taken my wallet, and the thief knew the police knew and so it was only a matter of time before they caught up with him. I'm sure this was weighing heavily on his mind and I guess thats why he fronted up to the Woden Police Station, nearly a year later, with the cash that he had taken from my wallet.
Yup...not only did I get my wallet back, but eventually all the cash that had gone missing too. A very rare thing indeed.
Thanks to Constable Jamie XXXX from Woden Police for never giving up. (Mainly cos I was never going to let it go). :)
