People at other publishing companies think it's weird that I liked being an editorial assistant, but then again I never had to photocopy a thing, make or buy anyone coffee, or make a reservation. I had my own responsibilities and did work that nobody else was even able to do. I assumed this was what an Editorial Assistant was for everyone. But no,

does editorial assistant usually end up being like administrative assistant (aka secretary)?

I think so, yeah. I hear a lot of mention of running to coffee shops, photocopying, etc. Meanwhile, I got to head my own projects. It's pretty nuts to think about the difference. I also got paid more than others. SUCKERS.
