summer's gone

summer's gone, originally uploaded by Anna Kharina.
So, I remain still puzzled by why Anna thinks her photos so remote from the other shots I post. This evocative shot intrigues me, because it's obviously lovers who must part at summer's end. At first, I thought they were both girls (woohoo -- Russian lesbians!), but then I thought perhaps the curly-headed one was a boy...so then I turned Google's translator loose and learned a bit more.

Anna replied to a comment under this shot, "...[something is an] interesting picture when it shows what touches you [the photographer] most, and cool [perhaps "less interesting" is meant] when it touches the spectator. So I think that [he or she appearing to be] a fag can be ignored generally -- which would be all right -- or can be ignored simply because a fag is fashionable. And then it does not matter; [who cares whether he/she is] a fag or a girl against the white wall... because what's the difference, the pose [becomes] meaningless without internal involvement of the author."

I think she was pissed at someone calling the curly-headed person effeminate. Admittedly, "fag" in Euro-English CAN be less nasty than the word is in the U.S. (hell, in the UK, there's a fair chance it refers to a cigarette!) -- but she's saying, I think, it's HER call what the aesthetic of the photo means or doesn't mean.

But I'll ask Anna what was really happening here.

PW 60 (if two girls; 30, if one's a boy...though Anna may find ME discriminating a bit offensive, too...)

fag, 2 girls, lovers, summer
