Girl who wants to be a boy

I was impressed by a question-and-answer on a lesbian Tumblr just now. (There are, perhaps surprisingly, a LOT of q-and-a things on Tumblr, certainly on the gay sites -- but I suspect they're doing it on the hetero blogs, too; heck, there's an "ask me" tab on many tumblrs, which is the only way to talk back to someone.)
Anyhow, someone's girlfriend came out to her as a trans, wanting to be a male. GF squicked; she has no interest in sex with guys of any description. Life gets complicated, but the answering lezzie agreed GF had little choice: sure, be supportive and "a friend" but no need to make "him" (quotes only to indicate the gender he wishes) a friend-with-benefits.
I'm there, too -- though my comment adds a possibly subtle distinction.

My little 'tags" game proves interesting here. However, I'm embarrassed NOT to have "trans" in that old listing -- I've posted about transgender matters for years, and have a number of marvelous trans friends here. Admittedly, I did the list 4-5 years ago... but no excuse. I'm sorry -- just wish I could add a new tag!
And I guess I should explain "butchie" -- a girl who enjoys affecting boyishness (from "tomboys" to cross-dressers) ISN'T necessarily heading for a femme-dude transition. BTW Let me spare you clicking on "butchie" to go see a 5-year-old post of mine that puts it into quite personal terms; here it is:

No need to explain "lesbians?" (actually, with "?" the most expressive tag to get at GF's problem); but I'll let you navigate you own way there. An incentive: there are SIX times I've invoked "lesbians?" over the years, including a 2010 photo-piece with girls made up to look like dolls, literally. (My LJ used to have lots of photos I found on Flickr and got permission to show here; the jerks running Flickr had harassed repostings (even with permission) for a long time -- and effectively stopped them last year.)
