Storm disaster in the Philippines

Nov 14, 2013 00:46

It's been five days since a huge cyclone plowed into the Philippines; thousands are dead, and as many as a million people are affected by the destruction.

I saw the NBC News coverage tonight, sad about the slow response in the hard-hit city of Tacloban. But I was pleased by a report from their chief medical correspondent -- Dr Nancy Schneiderman, Brian Williams' "right hand" for every kind of health news -- who had gone into a second badly devastated city AND found a team of U.S. doctors running a full-scale emergency clinic there.

That NBC sent a senior (and knowledgeable) person there is great, and her encountering this early response (the U.S. team were heading for an international conference, but rerouted themselves when they heard about the Philippine disaster) is even better!

There's so much more to do! Here's a more recent report -- http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/philippines-typhoon-aid-operations-pick-up-pace-1.2423259
