"femme tuxedo" -- you need to read to the end to understand...

Just saw (on the blog "feministing," which I have long followed) a reference to a new book -- Gaga-Feminism, Sex, Gender and the End of Normal -- and read the introduction, courtesy of "scribd.com" (also new to me). It's a "child-centric account of new genders" by someone himself a diverse (if not exactly "new") gender.

Written by Jack Halberstam, who is evidently a male-identified girl living with a more-or-less straight guy (which you need to know in order to "get" the book), it melds Lady Gaga, Sponge Bob Squarepants, and a pair of inquisitive children to talk about "the end of normal" sexuality. They are Jack's significant other's kids, and the four people are a "household" (thank you, U.S. Census!).

Interestingly, I cannot quote from the intro -- it has a copyright-defending gizmo* that turns quotes into gibberish (you should see what it did to the above-cited "child-centric account of new genders"!). So you should** just read the intro:

* I actually favor such devices, especially after playing on Tumblr (which I like, even as I admit it promotes theft of intellectual property -- and the "orphaning" of countless millions of photos). Here, I got to read the intro, even as I'm prevented from ripping it off. I suspect the near future will see lots of high-tech fixes to defend creators in their creativity. That'll be good AND bad -- don't get me started on Flickr's ANTI-creative censorship!

** You "should" also be titillated by my tags, as you recall my ongoing game of re-purposing such tags -- believe it or not, I once found a need for "femme tuxedo" (and Jack Halberstam should be the first to admire it).
