How fantastic is that shot? Nicky flinging her hair, the rainbow, the flight of birds, the sea rushing in, all in the same instant. I wonder if it was precisely planned, serendipity, or a mixture of both. It's just so dynamic! She really made use of the golden hour. I understand that movie makers will wait all day just to capture that precious light.

I agree with you about Fair trade. I know that there has been some criticism of Fairtrade because it isn't a magic solution, but as I get older I tend to be more and more suspicious of instant, sweeping changes that will make everything perfect in one fell swoop. Small improvements and gradual changes are what will make things better, and it should really be about making things better rather than 'heroic' instant fixes.

Definitely; I've lived in a number of "developing" countries, and despite well-intended programs and -- sometimes -- imagination (the Grameen Bank comes to mind), life seems to confound the best of efforts. There was a good piece in The New Yorker a few months back, looking at premium coffees from Central America -- and "fair trade" seems to improve the lives of small-scale growers in several countries.
