yesterday it snowed.
and if you live in Britain or know anything of British weather this is a newsworthy event. Newsworthy in the sense that it comes just behind a hostage situation in Mali and before the Lance Armstrong dope scandal.
The buses freeze and panic like they've never seen snow before, anything with a gradient higher than 10% becomes suddenly impassable. The media howl for grit and ploughs to keep the roads clear. And the NHS quickly determines how they will get people into work without the slightest idea as how they can get home again.
But think of the patients!
Balls to the patients, if i crash and die coming into work i'm thinking of me.
Bristol is actually so snarled at rush hour than many people were abandoning their cars where they could and walking the rest of the way. Anyone stranded over on the other side of the city simply gave up and didn't come in at all.
I walked in, so i didn't really have a choice, but it was the only time since 2007 that i've broken out my canadian great coat, which i really don't wear as it's a shocking shade of pink, but it's warm and decidedly effective with a fur hood. if only my DM's weren't so slippy. Fell over coming down the hill but that aside it was nice to see the world whited.
It's also much quieter. Not only because of lack of traffic, at least not where i live, it was like the snow deadened the sound of the world. swamping it in white cotton. really great to wrap up and get into work.
Snow doesn't bother me driving either. Just low gear it and don't drive daft. If you hit ice you'll still slide but hopefully you won't slide too far. don't touch the brakes cos you'll lock up even worse. just let the car re-gain its own gravity.
i sound like such a know-it-all.
