back to a place where it rains. a lot.

Just got back from 5 days away in sun-kissed and exotic west wales. Here are some of the things i have learnt during my time:

1. 7 year old boys have a limitless supply of energy. Running around like gangbusters even when they're overtired and moody, they seem to have this ability to make-believe I wish all of us had, or at least retained once we hit puberty.

2. Though it might be deemed "lucky" by someone long ago. Getting dive-bombed by incontinent seagulls isn't fun. Especially when you're on your way into an alternative fashion boutique and the first thing the proprietor hears is your haunting catchphrase 'Motherfuc...'. How to make a bad impression.

3. The movie 'How to lose friends and alienate people' starring Simon Pegg is surprisingly funny. Next time I go to New York I'm gonna go somewhere really crowded (not difficult in New York) and start chanting "En-ger-land! En-ger-land! En-ger-land!"

4. Wood burning stoves are SOOOO COOL!!! Just the ritual of getting the firelighters, kindling and logs all at a certain way and getting the stuff to burn properly and keeping your eye on the logs is lovely. We had the burning going in the morning as well as the evening and there's nothing like eating cornflakes in front of a warming stove. really.

5. Darkness is dark. I had to use a flashlight to go for a pee during the night.

6. Lambs are rough when drinking from their moms. The cottage we stayed in backed onto one of the many sheep fields around the place and a lot of times we could see the lambs and their muvvers. One poor ewe had twins going at her, tails going like crazy. The look on her face was 'Here we go again...'.

7. Monopoly is dangerous. And fun when you control one side of the board with a hotel on every property. A quarter of the game was covered in red. and it belonged to ME!!!!!!

8. Red kites. There's a reserve outside of Aber, and you can see them feeding the kites every day at 3pm. If you're in or around Aber go and see it, it is rather spectacular, and all you pay is £1.50 parking fee.

9. Polly's has surprisingly good bath stuff. I was a bit apprehensive at first as I've been using Lush products for a while, but Polly's stuff isn't bad, and while not as good quality as Lush it's not as expensive either. A good trade off and one I'll be using the next time I'm in Aber.

10. I'm glad I went to Aber when I did (98-02). I hardly recognise the campus anymore. So many new buildings have sprung up or are springing up all over the place, everybody looks around 16 or so but the knowledge that I'd have to fork over thousands every year for my tuition is the biggest difference. I fully believe that if I had to pay tuition fees I wouldn't be able to go to university at all. Not when I was 19 or now. I'm happy I haven't had to pay that but sad also that others will have to. I don't know the answer to this situation.
