cramps

Feb 17, 2010 09:35

the title of this entry is the feeling i'm getting as i type.
Ow.
This hurts.

I reckon I'm ill and my body's doing its upmost to stop me coming down with something awful. There are other symptoms to these cramps but this is a family orientated post so I'll keep the detail low.

The last 2 days I've been in Southmead MAIN theatre. Doing General.
Now I know this was not on my list of priorities but it's going really well. Not least of all because I am familiar with the surgeons who make the rounds over the 2 main sites that make up North bristol NHS trust.
I got to work with Tony D.

Sometimes I think I'm the only person who likes that man. Although I recognise that his full 100% up-to-eleven wrath hasn't be directed at me yet. I hope that the day never comes when he cooks-off in my direction.
Monday he was just his usual sarcastic self.
"Let's go Dee-Dee!" rings through the theatre.
Da da.

And I got into a slightly uncomfortable conversation with his registrar who is South African about 'Invictius'. The Reg was a bit unhappy that it was trailered and promoted as being a pure Nelson Mandela film rather than about Peinaar as I mentioned a while ago.
And he also followed this by speaking his mind on the current situation of Springbok rugby concerning white and black South Africa.
I won't bore you with the details, but even with the Springboks as reigning World Cup Champions this man was not happy about the (supposed) forced integration of rugby even though the majority of black South Africans would rather play soccer.

It's like when politicians go on in the Ukk about how "Immigrants WILL INTEGRATE!"
Who says they want to?
Even the British in New York have their own bars and areas where they all hang out. I've noticed that in most countries which are secular and don't have different minorities trying to blow each other up there is little full integration. We are a tribal species.

I put this in the post because some people are dealing with similar problems in the LGBT Unison due to the low percentage of ethnic minorities in the unions.
Telling people we MUST attract a certain percentage to hit a 'quota' is just mad.

There are LOADS of different factors effecting a person's sexuality/gender identity. They can't just be out because the Ukk government says it's ok and we're not going to stone you for it.
Silly legislation.

But politics, racism and homophobia aside I'm doing very well and am much happier in my current placement than I was in Patapsco.
Which can only be a blessing.

nhs, politics, lgbt, work
