ok. first off, one of the senior scrub nurses in the plastics theatres was chatting to me and called me gorgeous.
She's a she, and she's married with a child so there was nothing sexual, more so the vibe "you're so strong and brave at undertaking this trial in your life etc, etc, etc".
I was a bit bashful admittedly, mainly because i've never taken praise easily as some of you know.
but hey, it's a bit of an ego boost. :-)
the other thing was that i was working with Ewa, a good friend of mine who's Polish and i may have mentioned her before.
only the 2 of us and the surgeon and while she scrubbed i ran around in the small local-operations theatre getting sutures, swabs, doing counts, paperwork, organising specimens and making the computer's up to date.
and I really enjoyed that. i can scrub and the usual practice is that the scrubbers alternate their cases, but i know the theatre better than Ewa does and I can find things faster.
sometimes i feel like one of these alien bartenders in the kids shows, y'know? 8 arms all going at once.
But I like the challenge of keeping the operation going, making sure the sutures are to hand and the paperwork's done.
although after we finish our 3 patients we see it's 5pm and none of us have had a drink or a pee yet (not enough time).
so me, Ewa and the 2 girls on the desk all take 20 minutes having a tea-break at the end of the day.
fine, then i get sidetracked helping another patient in plastics and turn up in MAIN Theatre at 5.50pm.
apparently the sister was annoyed that I hadn't been down earlier.
Huh?
So that's the way it is? we flog ourselves to death trying to finish our list early to have a break only to get our knuckles rapped for not jumping down to MAIN theatres on the double?
F*uk that!
If that's the way they're gonna play it we'll do the opposite, work slowly. Do a forced work slowdown a la World War II.
As it was myself and Ewa got thanked personally from the surgeon in charge as she told us how hard we work and what a good job we do.
That made my day.
well, that and been told i was gorgeous. :-)
I still can't get over that.
