video game companies are always looking for animators, riggers, and modelers it seems. Maya or 3d studio max seems to be the most frequently used programs.
Flash is... well, it's hit or miss. Most companies are getting out of flash and into 3d around here. The company I worked for just got rid of almost all their 2d animation staff. A lot of casual games and DS games are made with flash- but a lot of those companies are pretty shakey. That's what D was doing before he got this job. It's a handy skill to have, just don't make it your only skill i suppose.
You'll like Maya - it's quite hard to figure out to start off with but it's so powerful, particularly the nurbs modelling - it's just like moulding a ball of clay.
Hi Sorry to read that your job did not work out. It is a shame. I suppose a lot of specialist smaller companies are feeling the pinch now with the recession. I hope that you are able to find a new job soon, and in an area which interests you and offers you long term opportunities.
Speaking of sculpting, I was at Dad's a few weeks ago and in an old box from University I found your 'ickle imps' that you sculpted for your degree. Do you want them back? Let me know and I can get them over to you by car. If you don't want them back what do you want me to do with them? I am sure that your sculpting skills are far surpassing the 'ickle imp' days but you may want them back, they are after all your art work :)
