I was talking with my mom about the difference for me between music I like and music I love. There are some songs that I can just enjoy and listen to while I'm doing stuff, and people can talk during them, that's fine, it's just good music and is fine in the background or foreground. There are some songs, though, that can come on the radio and I have to sit down to listen. I'll stop what I'm doing, shut the door, and I'll shush anyone who talks. There's a magic to these songs; I'll find myself in tears, not from sadness, but from being overwhelmed with feeling. Also, for both of us, music is more powerful than other art forms; I can imagine someone feeling that way about a painting or a dance, but I never have.
So here's the participation section: What art do you love? I'd love both broad categories and specific pieces. Some of my favorite pieces of music are below.
Carmina Burana, by Carl Orff
The Firebird Suite, by Igor Stravinsky
Sunken Treasure, by Gil Evans
The Divine Comedy, by Robert W. Smith
Rhapsody in Blue, by George Gershwin
