wtf?!?!

what the hell are these rougue house GOPers doing? i swear to god the republicans are determined to wreck this country by hook or by crook. jesus. and don't say you don't like the bill -- nobody loves this bill, but we are talking global economic meltdown if US credit does not become liquid pronto. it would be one thing if the oh-so-faint-of-heart "real" conservatives had bothered to come up with a workable alternative, but they haven't. so what is the damn deal? some of their resistance to this bill is ideological, which i can respect if not sympathize with, but there are some very uncharitable political explanations as well.

you know what that means? So what we now have is non-functional government in the face of a major crisis, because Congress includes a quorum of crazies and nobody trusts the White House an inch. As a friend said last night, we’ve become a banana republic with nukes.
just watch the DOW and then watch the store near you close. doesn't matter which store you've got in mind, really, any one of them might do. i swear to god i did not anticipate these assholes not getting their act together by today. i was serene the whole weekend -- confident that the impending market crash would be enough incentive for these hill jockeys to get a damn clue, but noooo. i am particularly miffed that the ones whose favored policies got us into this mess (go go gadget unfettered market) are the ones who can't bear to battle their consciences to bail us all out. i cannot imagine how barney frank and co. feel. i personally feel like i could throttle several people bloody and i'm not even in d.c.

i am astonished. honestly. once again.

is there no end to the crisis these people are willing to dwell in?

late update: now this is what a president is supposed to sound like:"We meet here at a time of great uncertainty for America. The era of greed and irresponsibility on Wall Street and in Washington has led us to a financial crisis as serious as any we have faced since the Great Depression. They said they wanted to let the market run free but instead they let it run wild, and in the process they trampled our American values of fairness, balance, and responsibility to one another. Now, because of speculators who gamed the system and regulators who looked the other way, your jobs, your life savings, and the stability of our entire economy is at risk."

"So we've been left with no good options. And today, Democrats and Republicans in Washington have a responsibility to make sure that an emergency rescue package is put forward that can at least stop the immediate problems that we have so we can begin to plan for the future."

"Now, as I said, this is a hard thing to do. And, you know, right now, Democratic and Republican leaders have agreed, but members have not yet agreed. And there are going to be some bumps and trials and tribulations and ups and downs before we get this rescue package done.

"It's important for the American public and for the markets to stay calm, because things are never smooth in Congress, and to understand that it will get done. We are going to make sure that an emergency package is put together because it is required for us to stabilize the markets and to make sure that when a small business person wakes up tomorrow morning, he's going to be able to make payroll."
could sorkin have written more intelligible, accurate, or appropriate words? not much.

and that, in a nut shell, is why this man has my support. i've spent my entire adult life being inspired and comforted only by a t.v. president because the ones we actually had were total disasters (though on scales that are nothing like equivalent -- blow job in the oval office v. blow every american institution the hell up) -- now, i want my chance to have a t.v. president in real life.

obama or bust.

and speaking in the voice of the economy, that's a literal statement.

obama, we all fall down, politico
