One of my favorite places in Germany is the island of Sylt. It's way up north, almost Denmark, and it's really beautiful. Steinhude, a part of the small town of Wunstorf (about 20 km from Hanover)will be the most famous for the Steinhude Lake which has a quite more impressive name in German: "Steinhuder Meer" (Meer = Sea/Ocean). It has an island with a small castle called "Festung Wilhelmstein". ( Read more... )

These nifty things are Strandkoerbe - an item you will find on nearly every German beach. There are quite a few, a fact that people abroad often don't seem aware of. The SPIEGEL, a major news magazine in Germany, published this article on them that I wanted to share with you. :)
