Pretty much the same thing. :) It's just that the exact recipe and thickness of the dough varies between regions. I know my relatives in Hessen make a "deep dish" version (makes me wonder if that's how Chicago Deep Dish pizza started!) while my Swabian aunt in the Black Forest makes the thin crust version that is most like Flammkuchen. I prefer that one just like I will always prefer thin crust pizza.
