Hi, everyone!
So in my German class, the guy I sit next to was talking to me about how he feels like the German language is often very revealing about the attitudes of German people and various aspects of German culture. When I asked him for explanations, he pointed out that the language is full of many strict rules, which reflect how Germans are often very rule-abiding, matter-of-fact people. He also pointed out that the many dialects of the language showcase how diverse German culture really is; he singled out Bavaria as an example of a German region with a very distinct dialect and set of traditions.
This conversation was so interesting to me, as I had never really thought of the German language as a window into the German culture. I was wondering if you, oh wonderful members of
deutsche_kultur, had any other examples of how the language reflects the characteristics of the German people.
Thanks. :)
