Fischstand auf dem Wochenmarkt -- Seafood stand at the Farmer's Market
This is a nationwide thing. Farmer's Markets have remained popular in Germany through the ages and, following the current worldwide trend for fresh/organic produce, they have gotten even more popular again recently. Even small villages will have a weekly or bi-weekly market somewhere nearby. Apart from the usual produce (fruits and veggies) and other typical market fare (snacks, fresh flowers), you often see these seafood stands that traditionally brought down fish and other seafood from the coast. Today seafood is available in any store, of course, and there are chains like NORDSEE that serve the whole country, but many Germans still prefer buying their fish fresh at the farmer's market -- including my parents, we have always bought our seafood at these portable shops and it's very much worth it. So this is another slice of German culture. :)
Here's a random video I found on a Farmer's Market in Frankfurt/Main (state of Hesse)~

To those living in Germany, do you shop at the markets?
Everybody else, where do you live? Do you?
