RP Log | The One Where She Knows Everyone

Dec 12, 2009 22:49

*Midday at One Police Plaza. Near the elevators, a couple of plainclothes detectives are talking to each other while they wait for the elevator to arrive. *

Detective Margetts: Where are you off to?
Detective Sheridan: Gotta go relieve Smith. Protective detail over in midtown west.

Alex Eames: *joins them at the elevator, a few files tucked under her arm*
Detective Margetts: Fun. Who's the unlucky witness needin' your protection?

Detective Margetts: *pauses* Oh, hey Eames.
Alex Eames: *nods to him* Hey, Margetts.

Detective Sheridan: *nods to her as well, then answers Margetts' question* No witness. Homicide ADA who pissed off a cartel.
Alex Eames: *frowns at them, decides to butt into the conversation* Which Homicide ADA?
Detective Sheridan: Rubirosa. And by default, her husband the EADA.
Alex Eames: *feeling herself go a little faint at the news, blinks* Connie Rubirosa?

Alex Eames: *she knows it's who it is, but she's just shocked*
Detective Sheridan: Yeah. She got some witness to turn on the cartel, agree to testify for the DA. Cartel issued a threat. Didn't issue an outright hit, but the DA's pullin' out all stops.
Alex Eames: Of course... *slow nod* *doors open and she steps inside, preparing to pull out her phone when she gets outside*
Connie Rubirosa: *the other detectives step in as well*
Detective Margetts: After what happened to McCoy's last ADA, doesn't surprise me. *grim face*

Detective Sheridan: *nods, remembering Borgia*
Alex Eames: *winces, nods again* When was this threat given to Rubirosa?
Detective Sheridan: Yesterday.
Alex Eames: Anything suspicious happened since then?
Detective Sheridan: Not yet, but she only went from Hogan Place to her house. Don't think she's been out yet today.
Alex Eames: *nods* Understandable.
Detective Sheridan: *nods*

Alex Eames: You on your way there now?
Detective Sheridan: Yep.
Alex Eames: *nods* Good. *waiting for the elevator to stop*
Connie Rubirosa: *elevator stops*
Alex Eames: See you later. *gives them a little wave*
Connie Rubirosa: *they say goodbye to her and go on their ways*
Alex Eames: *once outside, pulls out her phone and dials Connie's number*

Connie Rubirosa: *answers her phone after a couple of rings* Hello?
Alex Eames: Hey, Connie, it's Alex.
Connie Rubirosa: Alex, hey. *sounds relatively normal*
Alex Eames: How are you doing?
Alex Eames: *casual, like normal*

Connie Rubirosa: I'm fine. A little busy with work, but....*pause* Why, what's up?
Alex Eames: Nothing. Just got a bit of free time, was wondering if you wanted to spend the afternoon doing something non-work related? I don't mind coming over.
Connie Rubirosa: *a brief pause as Connie considers this* Today's probably not so good. Maybe sometime next week or even next weekend?
Alex Eames: You're sure? It'll be fun.

Connie Rubirosa: --I'm sure it would be. I'm just kind of busy right now. Like I said, work....work is kicking my ass right now.
Connie Rubirosa: *she thinks she sounds normal, but she doesn't. She sounds a tad defensive and a little lost*

Alex Eames: I know... that's why I'm offering to spend some time with you.
Alex Eames: *doesn't react to the defensive tone at all*
Connie Rubirosa: Today's really not a good idea. *quiet, not knowing what else to say*
Alex Eames: Connie... *softly* I know the guys who are watching you, and one more detective around you can't hurt. If you don't want the company, then fair enough, but I thought a friend might do you some good... help give you something to focus on? *caring, but not overly pushy, just offering to give her a distraction and a friend*
Connie Rubirosa: *quiet* I guess news travels fast around the NYPD.
Alex Eames: *soft, quiet* It does when you work at the heart of it, and know everyone in the building.

Connie Rubirosa: Michael's going out in a little while. If you want to come over then...it'd be nice not being alone....That probably sounds stupid...not wanting to be alone for a couple hours...
Alex Eames: Not at all. Definitely not.
Alex Eames: I will be there.

Connie Rubirosa: Okay.....I'll see you then.
Alex Eames: See you soon. Bye. *puts the phone down and carries on walking to her car*

Alex Eames: *later, arrives at Connie's apartment building, gets out her car*

Alex Eames: *Alex buzzes to get into the building*
Connie Rubirosa: *the lobby cop checks her out, looks over her badge, etc*
Alex Eames: *expected that to happen, does so, knows the lobby cop as well*
Alex Eames: *in passing*
Connie Rubirosa: *she's finally let up*
Alex Eames: *goes up to Connie's apartment and knocks on the door*
Connie Rubirosa: *looks through the peephole, then unlocks the door. She's dressed in yoga pants and a sweatshirt, her hair back. She put a little makeup on, but her eyes look strained and tired, despite the small smile she offers.* Hey.
Alex Eames: *returns the smile* Hey. *goes inside, quickly*
Connie Rubirosa: *closes the door quickly, locks it*
Connie Rubirosa: *there are candles burning some fresh, homey smell - vanilla, maybe - and the crock pot is slowly cooking a pot roast in the kitchen. The living room is newly vacuumed as well.*

Alex Eames: Smells good in here. *smile* *figures Connie's been keeping busy with cleaning then*
Connie Rubirosa: Thanks. I've had a productive morning.
Alex Eames: *nods* The place looks great. What's cookin'?
Connie Rubirosa: Pot roast. *little smile*
Alex Eames: *returns the smile, nods* Yum. *pulls an envelope out her pocket* This is your holiday card... from Ellie, I was meant to bring it over yesterday
Connie Rubirosa: Oh, thanks. *this makes her smile grow bigger, and she sits down on the couch to look it over*...I'm behind on my cards.

Alex Eames: *the card is full of crayon squiggles and it neatly says "To Auntie Nee-Nee, love from Ellie (and those grown-ups I live with)." with even more squiggles on the back and front* I'm letting my kid do them this year. *chuckles, sits down, too*
Connie Rubirosa: *laughs, opens it and reads, first smiling, then starts to cry a little*
Alex Eames: Are you okay? *concerned*
Connie Rubirosa: *nods* Thanks. It's really sweet.
Alex Eames: You're welcome. *smiles*

Connie Rubirosa: *little smile* I think I'm going to finish our cards tonight. I'm putting a picture from our wedding in them.
Alex Eames: The picture with that giant grin on each of your faces? *smiles* I like the personal touch.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods* That's the one. Michael was a grump about it, but you know how he hates displays involving him that aren't court-related.
Connie Rubirosa: *smirk*

Alex Eames: *chuckles* Of course. I can imagine him having a bit of hmph over it. Tough luck, though. *smirks back*
Connie Rubirosa: *smiles* Although he did admit that he's fond of the picture himself. Well, the half with me in it.
Alex Eames: *laughs* That's kinda cute. I think most men are the same with pictures like that... closet fans.
Connie Rubirosa: *chuckles*
Alex Eames: It's why I don't show David pictures I take of him... though I have threatened to post them online somewhere.
Connie Rubirosa: *amused*
Connie Rubirosa: Do you want anything to drink?
Alex Eames: Whatever you've got going, please. *is thirsty*
Connie Rubirosa: *goes to the kitchen*
Connie Rubirosa: How's David?

Connie Rubirosa: *as she fixes Alex a mug of tea*
Alex Eames: *follows* He's fine. He and Ellie are out doing some kind of shopping. I have no idea what.

Connie Rubirosa: Maybe getting your Christmas gift?
Alex Eames: *laughs* Probably. He didn't say.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
Alex Eames: It's probably best I don't ask because he gets annoyed when I pull it out of him
Connie Rubirosa: *laughs*
Alex Eames: *chuckles*
Connie Rubirosa: *hands Alex's tea over to her*
Alex Eames: *takes it, gratefully* Thank you.
Connie Rubirosa: You're welcome.
Connie Rubirosa: Michael didn't say where he was going....*pause* I think...he just needed to get out...have some time to clear his head.
Connie Rubirosa: *quieter* He thinks I don't see how worried he is.
Alex Eames: *nods* It's probably a way to protect you, and make you feel safe.

Alex Eames: *soft*
Connie Rubirosa: *nods* He does do that. But I can still see it in his eyes. At least he's got it more together than I do, though.
Alex Eames: I'm sure he's doing everything he can to keep it together for you. *nods*
Alex Eames: *smile*
Connie Rubirosa: *nods, goes back into the living room, sits back down, drawing her knees up*
Alex Eames: *follows, sitting back down* Everything that can be done is being done. *supportive smile* As stupid as it sounds, you just gotta sit tight for now, and let him help you feel as safe as you can.

Connie Rubirosa: *nods again, sips her own tea*
Alex Eames: *nods, too* Are you feeling any better? You know, you said you felt you were coming down with someone a week or so ago?
Connie Rubirosa: I'm not sure. I mean, I still feel sick here and there...but I'm not sure if I'm actually sick or it's just the stress. We found out about the threat yesterday, and I barfed.

Alex Eames: Though you've been feeling off for weeks now. *frowny face, thinking for a moment then shakes her head* Could be stress...
Connie Rubirosa: It's really only been a couple weeks. *shrugs*
Alex Eames: *frowns* A couple of weeks is a long time to be feeling off-colour without a reason. I hope you feel better soon. *smiles*
Connie Rubirosa: *nods* Thanks. I really think it's just the combination of stress and whatever bug's going around.
Alex Eames: I don't know. Maybe you should see a doctor if it doesn't go away soon.

Connie Rubirosa: Cole Hayes got it full on but the ADA in the office next to me only had it mildly. *then nods* If it gets worse, I will.
Alex Eames: *nods* I would if I were you. When you get chance, of course.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
Alex Eames: And don't give it me. *smirks, teasing*
Connie Rubirosa: I'll try not to.
Alex Eames: Thank you
Alex Eames: *nods*
Connie Rubirosa: Is Ellie running the house yet?
Alex Eames: She is getting quicker. *smiles* We've been getting a head start on packing... and she's been helping with that.
Connie Rubirosa: *chuckles* I'll bet. When I took her to Cori's, she ran all around the place.

Alex Eames: She did? *chuckles* I'm glad she keeps you on your toes, too.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods* She wanted to see everything.
Alex Eames: I'll bet. She can't keep her nose out of anything.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods* And then she started to fuss a bit, wondering where you were, so Cori taught her a new game.
Alex Eames: Oh?

Connie Rubirosa: *smirk* She took her to the kitchen and gave her a pot and a spoon.
Alex Eames: *mouth open slightly* You're kidding? That was Cori?
Alex Eames: *amused*
Connie Rubirosa: ....yes?
Alex Eames: *shakes her head* Ever since Ellie decided to do the same thing at home, David and I have been having a disagreement as to who taught her to do that. *laughs*
Connie Rubirosa: ....oops.
Alex Eames: I can't wait to tell him... Hah!
Connie Rubirosa: *laughs*
Alex Eames: *smirks*

Connie Rubirosa: *shifts in her seat a little*
Connie Rubirosa: What're you doing for Christmas?
Alex Eames: I--I honestly don't know. I'm trying to stay busy, so, who knows.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods*--what's...your family doing?
Alex Eames: Alice is taking hers on a Christmas vacation, and I think my kid brother is going with them. *nods* My parents will probably do what they do every year

Connie Rubirosa: Which is...?
Alex Eames: Have dinner at home and invite whoever is left standing to join them.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods* You guys gonna go over there?

Alex Eames: Maybe. Probably we will. I know I want Ellie to enjoy it more than anything, even though she's still too little to comprehend what Christmas is.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
Alex Eames: What're you doing for Christmas?
Connie Rubirosa: Spending Christmas Eve at my parents', like last year, and then Christmas Day out on Long Island with the Cutters.
Alex Eames: Sounds like fun. You've done all your gift shopping?
Connie Rubirosa: Most of it.
Alex Eames: *nods* Me, too. Everybody but David.
Connie Rubirosa: I bet he's hard to shop for.
Alex Eames: *eyeroll in agreement* Oh yeah. Worst person to buy for, honestly. *snort*

Connie Rubirosa: *laughs*
Alex Eames: And though my dad suggested gift voucher, I think that's cheating... plus I'd have to actually pick a store then.
Connie Rubirosa: Gift cards are impersonal.
Connie Rubirosa: I mean...I give them, but i try not to for people I'm closer to.
Alex Eames: Exactly, so I'm screwed.
Alex Eames: *chuckles*
Connie Rubirosa: *smirk* I'm sure you'll find something.
Connie Rubirosa: You could tell him you're pregnant. And then say just kidding, there's your present.

Connie Rubirosa: ....it would distract him at least.
Connie Rubirosa: And then you could move on to opening other presents.
Alex Eames: Are you kidding? I think that shock only works so well if you do it once. Besides, I'm not sick and I have no symptoms... and he's too smart to fall for it. *laughs*
Connie Rubirosa: *laughs*
Alex Eames: I think he'd have a heart attack if I did that to him again.
Alex Eames: *chuckles*
Connie Rubirosa: Okay, maybe not, then.
Alex Eames: Besides, it's your turn next year or something, isn't it?
Connie Rubirosa: What?

Alex Eames: Pregnancy. Baby.
Connie Rubirosa: Oh. *laughs* Yeah. Hopefully by the end of the year.
Alex Eames: *smirks*
Connie Rubirosa: *little smile*
Alex Eames: No, I'll think of something else to get him for Christmas... *small smile*
Connie Rubirosa: *drinks her tea*
Alex Eames: *sips her drink* Did you manage to get Cutter something for Christmas?
)
Connie Rubirosa: *nods, names some gadgety thing that he wanted*
Alex Eames: *nods* Sounds good.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods* I got him a few other things - books he wanted, little stuff.
Alex Eames: At least you knew what he wanted then.
Alex Eames: You're not opting for the 'telling him you're pregnant' idea then?

Connie Rubirosa: *laughs* No, because I know what he's getting.
Connie Rubirosa: Baby's not on the list.
Alex Eames: *chuckles*
Alex Eames: *amused by a baby being on a Christmas list*
Alex Eames: *wonders about trying it on David anyway...*
Connie Rubirosa: *smirk*

Alex Eames: *chuckles* So, this is your first Christmas as a married couple.
Alex Eames: Sweet.
Connie Rubirosa: It is.
Connie Rubirosa: We're having a lot of firsts in this next year.
Alex Eames: It's fun, right? *smiles*
Connie Rubirosa: *nods* It is.
Alex Eames: Enjoy them. *nods*
Connie Rubirosa: I will.
Alex Eames: *chuckles and nods* *pondering something for a moment, sips her tea*

Connie Rubirosa: What is it?
Alex Eames: Hm, I was just thinking about something David said last night. About marriage.
Connie Rubirosa: What's that?
Alex Eames: He... basically asked my permission to one day ask me to marry him... I think.

Alex Eames: *frowns at what she just said*
Connie Rubirosa: *raises a brow*
Alex Eames: I think he's just thinking about it... he was a bit confusing when he said it.
Alex Eames: But that was the general gist. Talking here reminded me of it. *shakes her head*
Connie Rubirosa: *confused nod*
Alex Eames: I just told him that if he did, he would have to do it right.
Connie Rubirosa: What way is right?

Alex Eames: Well... last time it was more about the fact I was pregnant and less about us, so right would be not about a baby and less of a suggestion. I guess right is that he knows that's what he wants.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
Alex Eames: *nods, too, smiles* How did Cutter propose? He asked permission, right?
Connie Rubirosa: It wasn't so much asking permission...as it was....we let them know we were wanting to get married....and he talked to my parents....Basically....we let them know what was going to happen before it happened.
Connie Rubirosa: And he talked to my dad, just the two of them, and let him know that he intended to take care of me.
Alex Eames: That's sweet. *smiles*
Connie Rubirosa: *nods*

Alex Eames: *smiles, sips her tea* That was the right way then, for you guys.
Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
Alex Eames: *sips her tea*
Alex Eames: *downs her tea*
Connie Rubirosa: That's nice that he's talking about it, right?
Alex Eames: It is. Though, it could just be talk. *nods*
Alex Eames: We'll see.
Alex Eames: *smiles*
