Tunnel vision.

Tunnels are conduits, allowing movements between one place and another, as well as back again. I remember being pretty impressed with the tunnel under the English Channel. Channel tunnel. Engineering never really being a priority of learn-iness, it makes it all the cooler, a mystery of man versus nature. That whole man-nature thing could be sort of exemplified by tunnels- going under mountains, blasting away rock to avoid some sort of natural phenomenon, making a path over the ocean floor from one continent to another. Oh, and no more worries about swimming across channels. Cold, choppy water and swimming rarely ends up well.

Also, there’s the tunnel vision. Loss of peripheral vision with retention of central vision, resulting in a constricted circular tunnel-like field of vision. There’s a whole lot of actual things that cause it, but it too, is often used in a metaphorical way. So, yeah, tunnels and metaphors go together like guitar riffs and amphitheaters.

Other than that, I admit my knowledge on tunnels isn’t really vast. I’m more of a bridge guy myself. I’m more of a guy who likes to go over trouble spots whether then to do the whole boring-through-the-middle kind of thing. I think that might be a metaphor to, but let’s stay away from the self-realization this morning-- I haven’t had coffee yet.
