Today is my first real day. A 24 hour shift, just me and my partner. The training wheels are off. It outta be interesting.
Unfortunately, I have a Dr's appointment and a shift at my other job tomorrow. I outta be able to get atleast 6 hours of sleep before either of those things(even if I get no sleep at work), but its gonna be a long couple of days. I should be able to get some rest today, but tomorrow will be longish.
Assuming today goes well, I'm going to finish drafting a letter of resignation at the other job. Its already nearly finished, but I'm going to wait till I see what a "real" shift is like before making any moves. But I figure theres a 99% chance I'll be saying a polite "goodbye" to my old job in the next few days. If it goes well, I'll hand over the letter to my manager, have a quick chat with him, and put in my last 2 weeks.
Why not try to balance them? Well, the old job doesn't allow over-time....in fact its very discouraged. And my straight pay at the EMT gig is about what overtime would be at the old job. AND, overtime is encouraged at the new gig. So any hour I spend at the old gig is about half of what I could get for doing an hour of overtime as an EMT. Plus fitting the schedules together would just be too difficult. I'd end up short changing one of the gigs.
In fact, I'm already having scheduling problems with the old job interfering the the new one. I have 2 shifts next week that are on the days when I am on as an EMT. One shift I am fairly sure I can get rid of. The other, well, I'll get rid of it soon enough. Plus, some places just let you go as soon as you give two weeks notice, I don't think it'll happen, but it might.
So, yeah, its been good so far. I've gotten a chance to do trauma calls, lots of medical calls, and facility transports. I've gotten a chance to do most everything except driving the squad (which I've only gotten a little time to do). And so far I'm really enjoying it.
And I need to find some way to thank the two people who were instrumental in getting me to take the EMT class in the first place and get the EMT gig.
Well, I *think* I have everything ready to leave in 9 minutes, so I'm gonna sign off and finish my breakfast. Later.
