iron birthday!

Happy birthday, Chris Evans! I like saying that, because it's like a happy birthday to me, seeing as how we share the same birthday, as well as a love of freedom, RDJ, and the movie Krull. You heard me. There's a reason he's my patronus. (I don't have a great ass, but he has that covered.)

On Tuesday, the people at Work Location A conspired to give me a happy day all day long. This is remarkable because I've only known these people for a year. See: changed employers one year ago this month. Nevertheless, there were cards, and then someone brought in a fantastic color-changing Iron Man nightlight. And then during a long meeting in the afternoon, someone delivered slices of the most delicious chocolate cake with chocolate ganache icing from the downtown bakery a few blocks away. So we feasted on cake thanks to a co-worker, and it was delightful. Then on Wednesday, Work Location B decided to up the game. Every time I left my office and went down the hall/to a meeting/to the bathroom, I'd come back to a new thing on my desk - sunflowers in a mason jar, apple fritters on an Iron Man party plate, and an Avengers Infinity War wallet. I was very touched by all the fuss.

The mail this week also brought me a book - The Iron Man Manual, which is 1000% excellent and full of TONY STARKNESS. And an art deco Iron Man t-shirt. And a stunningly beautiful piece of iron jewelry (OMG so beautiful), and the only RDJ movie I've never seen (Heart and Souls).

...I'm wondering if people have figured out somehow that I love Iron Man and RDJ? I'm unsure. I've been so subtle about it. How could they have guessed???

So today, I slept in until 7am (LUXURY) because it's my birthday and I do what I fucking want, and did errands, and read birthday texts and emails and messages, and now I'm going to read a long Ritchieverse Holmes/Watson story I've been saving, and then watch Heart and Souls. Obviously. I'm feeling very grateful and loved today. <3

I leave you with a song in memory of my mom, who died 12 years ago today. This is a song she loved, sung by the Carter Family, as she might have heard it when she was a child in West Virginia.
