Greetings LJ! Finally there is weather to talk about in California. If you haven't seen these
cool animation and satellite photos of the storm hitting us, it's pretty awesome. It looks like a hurricane, and it acts quite a bit like one, too. I find it hilarious that after months of incessant dry weather and above-average temps, Escapade con rolls into SoCal and the skies open up. HMMMMM.
Things that are good:
- The Sky's The Limit: Passion and Property in Manhattan by Steven Gaines, which I read today when the rain was coming down so hard it sounded like drummers beating on my house. The book hilariously describes the bizarre world of the super-rich and their real estate in Manhattan. I've mentioned before in this journal how fascinated I am by people buying tiny apartments for huge amounts of money (which is why the HGTV show Selling New York is my crack), but this book is about people buying really huge multi-million dollar apartments (or trying to; sometimes they can't get the co-ops to let them in). It is a strange and fascinating world these people live in, and the rest of us can only read about it.
- Trader Joe's PB&J chocolate bars. You wouldn't think these would be so crazy good, but they are: dark chocolate, creamy peanut butter, and subtle raspberry jam. It tastes like a PB&J sandwich, with a little chocolate on the side.
-
I imagine the gods saying, we will make it up to you by hells_half_acre, a Merlin/Arthur 'Arthur comes back and adapts to modern life' story which made me happy. (There are not a lot of M/A stories being posted. I am having some trouble coping.)
- I'm going to Vividcon! You know, eventually. When August rolls around.
-
COSMOS IS
ALMOST HERE!!!!!! Is it March 9 yet? Now? How about now??? :D
- Composer John Williams, who wrote the background music to my childhood, my imagination, and most of the very best/most iconic movies ever, was ABC News'
Person of the Week this week because he's the most Oscar-nominated person alive.
- In semi-related news, I'm going to do a rainy-evening Raiders of the Lost Ark trilogy rewatch tonight. (There are only three movies. That thing with that annoying kid from Transformers is dead to me.)
- Finally, I leave you with the sunset as seen from my backyard just a few days ago, before stormapalooza moved in. Have a lovely weekend.
