Time for vid recs!! (part one, the 'it's all about me' edition)
I am tired from my travels, and my sparkles are fading a bit. Now I must settle in and do some work and also answer comments/dl vids, BUT! -- first, I must point out the following vids to you, because they are incredible. (My bias has nothing to do with it.) I will have more vid recs later, and I also have a Merlin story rec...SO MUCH TO REC SO LITTLE TIME.
Your Battlefield by obsessive24 - Spartacus, Nasir and Naevia. This is the vid obsessive24 made for me in this year's Vividcon Auction, and it is...honestly, I lack words to explain how perfect it is. Nicky's notes describe some of what we discussed as she was deciding how to approach the vid, and it was so incredible to have that discussion, and then see her bring it all to life in the vid. Really, it's about the freedom to choose, and where Nasir and Naevia's paths crossed, and then diverged, because of their experiences and choices. The first few times I watched the finished vid, I cried quite a bit. Then at VVC, I felt vindicated because the person I was sitting next to was crying, and I was like, see? SEE???? FEELS. It's utterly beautiful.
crushcrushcrush by jetpack_monkey - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Bashir/O'Brien. This is the vid jetpack_monkey made for me in the auction. You know what was awesome? The gigantic cheer that went up at the end of this vid was awesome, that's what. Clearly there was a need for more of this fandom/pairing in the vidosphere, and WOW DOES THIS VID DELIVER. This is a song I had suggested that I thought might work, and Nate sort of processed that and then suddenly he had made this thing of beauty, which gives me all the Bashir/O'Brien feels. Nate's magic is his ability to work with older, more static sources, and DS9 definitely qualifies. And yet, in his hands, it looks sparkling and new again. Plus, FEELS. I feel kind of blessed that he decided to tackle this vid.
AND ALSO, a vid not made for me specifically, but it might as well have been!! -
Ghosts That We Knew by trelkez (aka the vidder formerly known as greensilver) - Merlin, Merlin/Arthur. This is the vid that reduced me to a weeping mess during the Challenge show at the con. Just. All my feels can be summed up as OH MY POOR ARTHUR AND MERLIN. Ugh. I've been waiting for someone to make this vid, and she did, and MY HEART.
