Well, I'm back from the Muscular Dystrophy Summer Camp. I actually got home on Friday, but I spent all of Saturday sleeping/hanging out with Charlie and the beginning of today working.
Camp was amazing - as usual. However, this year we have a lot more kids leaving the camp since they are changing the rules. The camp used to be for kids from 6-21, now it will only be from 6-17. They also had to get rid of a lot of volunteers that were former campers whose dystrophy isn't that severe, which sucks because I was just getting to know a lot people who would qualify under that label this year.
I had the same boy I have had since I started volunteering at the camp 3 years ago. He is 9 years old now. His dystrophy affects his legs from the waist down so this year he was unable to walk, whereas in previous years he could walk but he was much slower than most people. I had to get used to lifting him and helping him out in the bathroom this year, which was no problem, it was just something new to me. I was just starting to catch on and get the lifting, showering, and changing down to a science as the week ended.
This year was different though because we were put in a different cabin. This cabin has has the same group of people in it for a few years, so at first I didn't feel like I fit in. Again, by the end of the week, I felt like I was just starting to fit in well. We'll see where we get placed next year.
Also, I gave Aaron and Allie their last chance to be able to apologize to me for all of the stupid shit they've done to me over the past 6 months or so. We had to be together for the entire week, so there was plenty of opportunities to at least talk to me about everything but they acted like I didn't even exist. Oh well, now I know who my true friends are - and it's definately not them! Charlie agrees with me as well. He is done being friends with them also. Apparently Aaron was being rude to him all week and he said he thinks that Allie was only nice to him because she wants to get another tattoo from his mom.
PS. Cali, if you still read this - I think you would have enjoyed watching this little guy at camp all week. He was hilarious and he just reminds me of you.
